Catching Up...

So I started this blog with the hopes of blogging everyday and then I get super busy and don't have time to post for a week!

We got really busy at work and I was working 3 12 hour days in a row, which really didn't leave me much "me" time.... so I'm catching up now.

In recent events, my amazing parents have decided that for my birthday, they are going halves on a plane ticket for me to fly HOME! The main reason of me going home is for my nephew's first birthday. His is on the 28th of September and mine is on the 19th. Isn't he adorable?? I love him so much!! This is Daniel and him hanging out when my family came to visit in July:

I'll be flying home on the 27th so I can see him for his actual birthday and then for his birthday party which will be the following Saturday. I'm SO excited! I can't believe he's going to be one already. Time flies!!

I feel like I've been saying that alot recently.... these summer months have seemed to just sail right past me. June and July are just a huge blur to me and I can't believe August is almost over!

So two really good friends of ours are getting married on Sepetember 10th, and I felt like that was forever away when it's really like only a few weeks! I've been putting off dress shopping for their wedding cause I felt like I had alot of time to shop for it. But once August hit, I felt like I was running out of time! Amazing how it sneaks up on you. So I got a dress! It's made by mark. which is an Avon brand. My old boss just became a rep so I was looking through her catalogs and found it. It's not really something that I would normally pick out, but I felt it was appropirate for an end of summer/ evening wedding. I love maxi dresses and I love to dress them up, so I picked this out and just got it delivered! I love it! It's a perfect material and it looks really good with my black shrug that I plan on wearing with it. My friend is also letting me borrow her Vera Wang sling back pumps to go with it, I can't wait to wear it! So without further adeu... the dress:

I really like it cause the print can be dressed up or dressed down. You see the model above sort of dressed it like a summer evening/dinner dress, more causal. I plan on slapping on some gold jewelry and gold accented make up, curling my hair and wearing my previously mentioned black shrug cardigan to dress it up a little. I'm really excited for it!

In other news, we'll be leaving for Canada this weekend to visit our friends that we met on our honeymoon in Cancun. You'll probably hear me talk about them alot. We really clicked with them FAST! We were lucky that they lived so close to us. They live in Mississauga which is in Toronto in Canada. It's only about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive from where we live in Rochester. We have visited them once before in early March for a weekend. They've also made a weekend trip to Rochester to visit us in May and now we're going there again this weekend. I'm so excited. They are such great people. Their real names are Jennifer and Steven (which is funny cause my best friend in Rochester is named Jenn, so if you hear me talk about Jenn, it's two different people). However, in Mexico we renamed ourselves to fit in more with the "Mexican Theme" for the week. Our names were changed to Consuela and Raul... and their names are Carolina and Whore-Hey (we changed the spelling for our entertainment purposes.) They're hysterical and we are constantly laughing with them. So I'm super excited to see them this weekend for some fun, good food and awsome "international" shopping!

We were SUPPOSED to go with them on a one year anniversary trip to the Domincan Republic this year in October, however our current money situation isn't allowing us to do so, so we're having our 2nd annual Halloween party instead. In order to get myself to stop being SUPER BUMMED that we can't have a luxury vacation, I'm trying to get myself amped for this Halloween party and I've picked out my costume already! I'm going to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.... I'm so excited to dress it up and really look the part. I'm going all out! Here is the dress I ordered from Amazon.com:

I got a basket some old red heels from a local thrift shop this weekend, but I got them a half size too small forgetting that I also need to wear socks with them, I'm not sure if they're going to work. I really want to get these:

I found them on Amazon as well, but I really can't justify spending $30 on shoes I'm literally going to be wearing for a few hours ONCE in my life, and that aren't my wedding shoes. :) Who knows, I've been known to splurge like that randomly so I may end up getting them. Unless I get SUPER lucky and find something similar, used, on craigslist, but we'll see! I have a while so if I find the shoes later, it won't feel like I'm spending an ungodly amount on a Halloween costume. I COULD always resell the entire lot and get some of my money back..... we'll see!

I guess that's it for now.... I'm off to meet my friend Jenn for lunch! Thanks for reading!! See ya!!

I got feathered..

Ever since this new fad came out, I've had the idea in my head that my hair was too long for feathers to look good. Well my friends and I went to a street fest last weekend and there was a salon that was doing them right there on the sidewalk. It was too easy to not try it, so I broke down and did it.

The first feather I got was a shorter purple feather. It wasn't really placed in a spot where you could see it well. So I did some research on the Internet of where you can get the materials to do your own, and I did it! I got the feathers from Feather Boutique on Etsy, and watched a really good tutorial on you tube and viola!

I have feathers.....

The ones I ordered were the 11 light brown grizzly feathers, they came in a pack of 3 along with 3 silicone lined micro beads for about $20 all together with tax and shipping. They were delivered to me in a matter of days. I love them! You can do different colored ones for more of a pop, I chose a more natural color for my hair this time. Here is the YouTube tutorial that I used:

When choosing your feathers, make sure that you get real feathers and not synthetic ones. The synthetic ones you can't do much with. With real feathers you can curl them, straighten them and blow dry them! You'll notice the more you wash your hair the more the extension will fall naturally into your hair flow. The extension will last anywhere from 1-6 months and you'll most likely need to replace the bead every 4-6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.

I say if you want to do it, do it! Everyone can rock them! Good luck!

My very first blog post....

Hello! I am so excited to be starting a blog. I've always wondered what it would be like to have one and often times I think things that happen in my life would be a good read, but I've never actually acted on it.... I figured it was about time I do.

Not sure how interesting I am going to be or how many people will actually follow my blog, but I am going to try anyways. It's really more for me to be able to catalog the events in my life that are important and some that are just part of every day life.

You'll read posts about my shopping adventures (which usually occur every Saturday), posts about my house and how I'm currently decorating it, posts about make up tips, raves about products and recommendations, you'll probably read some rants and vents that just feel good to type out, and maybe even some recipes and dinner ideas!

I'm excited for this new project and I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy talking!
